Tourism And Hospitality Scholarships Available To Connecticut Students
Application Deadline is September 30
HARTFORD, Conn. (August 1, 2005) – Connecticut residents considering a future in hospitality or tourism are invited to apply for $1,000 in scholarship funds from the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism.
Tourism is a $10 billion industry in Connecticut, meaning the demand for qualified tourism and hospitality professionals never ceases, said Jennifer Aniskovich, executive director of the Commission on Culture & Tourism. Consequently, opportunities for young people in this sector are flourishing, and will continue to do so in the immediate future. Through our tourism and hospitality scholarships, we are able to nurture students pursuing a variety of careers by helping to defer a portion of the cost of their college educations.
To be eligible, applicants must be Connecticut residents who are seniors at a Connecticut high school; high school graduates who have not yet begun a college curriculum; or students at accredited, two- or four-year colleges or universities with advanced degree programs.
Scholarship winners must attend an accredited university or college on a full- or part-time basis (minimum of 6 credit hours) and be enrolled in a tourism or hospitality degree program. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic and personal achievement, as well as a demonstrated interest in the hospitality or tourism industry.
Completed application forms, professional and personal letters of recommendation, a current academic transcript, a personal letter of intent, and a personal resume must be submitted on or before September 30, 2005, and mailed to Joyce Fredericks, Scholarship/Grant Committee, Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism, Tourism Division, 505 Hudson Street, 2nd Floor, Hartford, CT 06106.
The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism brings together tourism, film, history and the arts. Its mission is to preserve and promote Connecticut’s cultural and tourism assets in order to enhance the quality of life and economic vitality of the state. The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism is located at One Financial Plaza, 755 Main Street, Hartford, Connecticut, 06103.
