33. Haunted House
- October provides a scarefest for families seeking Halloween fun. Every weekend evening in October, the Haunted Graveyard at Lake Compounce Theme Park in Bristol comes astir with horrifying ghosts, goblins and six haunted houses to explore if you dare. Also visit Bristol’s Witch’s Dungeon Classic Movie Museum – the longest running exhibit of its kind – with life-size figures from the horror and sci-fi classics based on life-casts of the actual actors; Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, Lon Chaney and other Hollywood stars.
- For more scenic, less scary thrills take the kids for a two-hour stroll through Connecticut aMAZEing Maze in Middletown. Open weekends from September through early November it’s a living cornfield with a touch of the fear factor lurking around every turn- old-fashioned hayrides too. Halloween is the height of the hayride season and many farms and orchards offer weekend rides as well as hours and hours of apple and pumpkin picking pleasure.
