Connecticut offers meeting planners affordability, accessibility and classic Americana charm

September 2003 - Connecticut, New England's newest meeting destination, offers meeting and conference planners affordability, accessibility and classic Americana charm with unique venues throughout the state ranging from the new 550,000 square-foot Connecticut Convention Center at Adriaen's Landing in Hartford to a traditional 1756 country inn set in Lyme. By presenting meeting planners with an abundance of venue options ranging from "small to extra-large," Connecticut is slated to become one of the premier meeting destinations in the Northeast United States.

An Affordable Alternative to the Usual Northeast Venues
Meeting and incentive planners looking to plan their next successful meeting infused with New England charm, will discover Connecticut as a more affordable choice to other New England meeting destinations. As a matter of fact, holding meetings in Connecticut cost less than nearby New York City and Boston, but still offers a distinctive choice of meeting environments, fascinating attractions and a variety of entertainment selections.

"Accessibility, Accessibility, Accessibility"
"Location, location, location" has always been the key ingredient for a successful business. For a successful meeting, planners need to ensure that attendees have easy accessibility to and from the meeting venue. Connecticut's location in the Northeast, provides a convenient drive for a large percentage of attendees (20 percent of the nation's population lives within a three-hour drive), a relaxing ride on Amtrak, or for those choosing to arrive by air, the newly expanded Hartford-Bradley International Airport, New York's La Guardia and John F. Kennedy International Airports and Providence Airport is a simple alternative as collectively they service many major airlines including: America West, Continental, Delta, Jetblue, Northwest, Southwest, US Airways Express and United Airlines.

Classic Americana Charm - Connecticut Captures the Beauty and Appeal of New England
New England evokes nostalgic feelings of an idyllic time and place, full of history, breathtaking scenery and warm hospitality. Not only does Connecticut reflect New England charm, but captures some of the most exciting dining, entertainment and attractions in the country. Meeting attendees can choose from a cornucopia of exciting and fun free-time activities, including: hitting the jackpot at one of two world-class casinos, exploring the deep at one of the state's aquariums, getting lost in one of the many outstanding art museums, experiencing the outdoors through canoeing, bicycling or hot air ballooning or enjoying exceptional dining at one-of-a-kind restaurants. In addition, attendees can take pleasure in many of Connecticut's signature historical attractions such as the Mark Twain House, Gillette Castle, USS Nautilus, Mystic Seaport and Yale University. And as more attendees are traveling with spouses and families, Connecticut's attractions present many exciting family-friendly opportunities.

Planning a Meeting in Connecticut Begins with a Simple Click
As part of Connecticut's ongoing effort to make planning a meeting in the state simple for meeting and conference planners, the Connecticut Office of Tourism has created a website at www.ctmeetings.com, where planners can log on to register for Request for Proposals (RFP), connect with the state's various conventions and visitors bureaus, quickly search for facilities around the state through virtual site inspections and utilize the My Meeting Plan feature, which is an interactive tool that creates customized meeting plans. In addition, planners can sign up on the website to receive an e-newsletter "Meet CT" for up to date information on the opening of new venues around the state and other affordable, efficient and fun meeting ideas.
