CONNECTICUT TOURISM DIVISION OFFERS VISITORS ALTERNATIVE ROUTE AND TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

Access to State Tourism Venues Continues During Temporary Closure of I-95 Section

HARTFORD, CT, March 26, 2004 -- In order to assist visitors during the temporary closure of a portion of Interstate 95 near the area of exit 26 in Bridgeport, the Connecticut Tourism Division of the Commission on Arts, Tourism, Culture, History and Film is providing information on both alternative driving routes and mass transportation on three communication resource venues: its official web site, www.ctbound.org; toll-free information line, 1-800-CTBOUND (1-800-282-6863), and at its six official Welcome Centers.

Visitors planning trips to the state over the next few weeks will find that the affected area of the interstate is relatively small, with detours clearly marked to temporarily take drivers off the highway and onto local streets before returning to the road. In the meantime, visitors in non-commercial vehicles can continue to utilize the Merritt Parkway, a National Scenic Byway, as well as numerous other modes of transportation, including rail service on both Metro North and Amtrak, and ferry service from Long Island. Links to rail and ferry schedules are also provided on the ctbound.org web site.

Updates on Interstate 95 travel will be communicated on the web, via the tourism division's 800 number, and in the Welcome Centers as they become available.
